And that’s really what we have been trying to avoid. But on the other hand, I fear that the NGO strategy is just to attack, attack, attack. Between 11% and 12% of our worldwide sales are done at the corner of 57th Street and Fifth Avenue. So imagine a sustained NGO protest, day after day, week after week, month after month. That is a frightening possibility. It’s the ultimate risk.”

原始古代
県内で発見された旧石器時代の遺跡は能美市の灯台笹遺跡（灯台笹=とだしの）など、極めて少ない。続く縄文時代の遺跡では能登町の真脇遺跡や金沢市新保本町のチカモリ遺跡で、大量の木柱根が出土し話題となった。同遺跡で縄文後期の祭祀施設らしい巨木を配置したウッドサークルが見つかっている。

県域は古くは越前国の領域に含まれていたが、718年に羽咋能登鳳至珠洲の4郡を割いて能登国が立てられた。能登国は741年越中国に併合され、この頃大伴家持が越中国守に赴任している。757年には越中国から分離し、再び能登国が立てられた。また823年には越前国から加賀江沼2郡を割いて加賀国が立国され、これが令制上最後の立国となった。

奈良時代から平安時代初期には、能登半島には渤海の使節がたびたび到着し、現志賀町に渤海使接待のための能登客院も設置され、交易も行われた,Gucci Earrings。源平の戦いでは、木曽義仲が倶利伽羅峠で四五百頭の牛の角に松明を付け、平家の陣に追い入れる「火牛の計」を用い平家をやぶり、京都に進んだ。室町時代には加賀の守護は冨樫氏、能登の守護は畠山氏であった。

中世
応仁の乱のころ浄土真宗が加賀に進出、やがて農民らによる一向一揆が守護の冨樫氏を破り、武士の支配を脱却した統治が約100年にわたって行われた。これが、加賀地方が「百姓の持ちたる国」と呼ばれた所以である。本願寺は後の金沢城の位置に金沢御坊を作り、ここを拠点にして支配した。本願寺と敵対する織田信長は、柴田勝家らを派遣してここを平定し、能登を前田利家に、加賀を佐久間盛政に与えた。信長の死後、豊臣秀吉が実権を握ると、前田利家は加賀も領して、金沢に入城した,mens tiffany jewellery。

近世
関ヶ原の戦いで家康についた利家の息子、利長は越中全域も含め、約120万石を領する大大名となった。前田家は産業工芸に力を入れ、城下町金沢は江戸末期には人口で日本4位の都市へと発展した。江戸時代に置かれた藩は金沢藩、大聖寺藩があり、城代の置かれたものに小松城がある。

近現代
明治維新後、廃藩置県で1871年7月14日に金沢県と大聖寺県が成立した。同年11月20日に金沢県と大聖寺県を廃止し、旧金沢県より射水郡以外の越中国の3郡を分けて新川県を設置、能登地方と越中国射水郡に七尾県を、加賀地方に金沢県を置いた。明けて1872年2月2日に、金沢県庁を石川郡美川町（現白山市）に移し、この郡名より石川県と改称した。現在の県名はこれに由来する。なお、石川は古くから氾濫を繰り返し石ころ河原だった手取川の別名という説がある。県庁の移設は、旧加賀藩の影響力を弱めるための時の政府の方策等諸説あるが、公式には金沢では県域の北に寄りすぎであるためという理由であった。

同年9月25日に射水郡を除く七尾県を石川県に併合（射水郡は新川県に併合）、11月に足羽県より白山麓11か村を併合し、現在の石川県と同じ県域となった。これにより、先の県庁移転の根拠が消滅し翌1873年に再び県庁は金沢に移転したが、県名はその後も石川県のままとされた。

その後、1876年に当時の新川県（現在の富山県にほぼ相当）、敦賀県（現福井県）の嶺北地域を編入し、富山と福井に支庁を置いた（現在の石川県と区別する意味で「大石川県」と呼ぶことがある）。しかし、1881年に福井県が、1883年に富山県が、それぞれ分離して現在の県域となる。
